Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Good morning.

We hope you are all doing great and this finds you healthy and safe in Jesus name. As you all know, Haiti needs your constant prayers now as it was the case in several circumstances including the terrible earthquake of January 12 of 2010…

Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, is already struggling to regain its footing almost seven years after the earthquake and ensuing cholera epidemic ravaged the nation. It remains particularly vulnerable to vicious weather storms because it is one of the most deforested countries in the world: Less than 2% of the land still has trees. The country also has relatively steep terrain as well, which makes it prone to landslides and mudslides.

On Jan. 12, 2010, Haiti suffered one of its worst natural disasters when a magnitude-7.0 earthquake ripped through Port-au-Prince. Houses collapsed, many sinking down mountain slopes. Roads crumbled, people were trapped under concrete for days; 230,000 people died.

The earthquake caused significant damage in Port-au-Prince, and government buildings such as the Presidential Palace and the National Assembly building were damaged or destroyed. Infrastructure was gutted, and at least 1 million people were forced to live in tent cities.

An epidemic of cholera, an infectious and often fatal bacterial disease of the small intestine that is often contracted from infected water supplies. broke out about 10 months after the earthquake, killing thousands more.

As Hurricane Matthew swept the Caribbean Monday, hitting Haiti, the massive storm carved out a deadly path. After leaving Haiti in “total disaster” and heading into Cuba, at least a number of deaths were associated with Matthew. The South, Southwest, Southeast and the Lartibonite department have been almost destroyed, not too much destruction in Port-au-Prince except a few iron sheets of the Delmas 43 building 7 of our church buildings were reported destroyed: At Jeremie 2 buildings collapsed and 1 lost the roof, at Tiburon, Anse-d’Ainauld, Pestel, Port-Salut church facilities are destroyed, in Leogane rooftops were flying in the air and will need to be replaced, church members are in the streets, 3 were killed. In the Lartibonite Valley, Bassin Bleu and Chansolme all these buildings are flooded; around 1,700 of our church members are victims, some of them are injured. Now, as after the earthquake food, shelters and drinking water is a great need. Brother Osee, one of the Preachers baptized during the July 2016 Seminar and divided with the Jehovah’s Witness assembly started a large congregation on his property under a tarp, now this assembly is in great necessity.
After this devastating Matthew, Casualties are difficult to number as several bridges in Haiti are also reported to be washed out, among other damages. Flooding, major winds and torrential downpour resulted in the destruction of countless homes and towns. Roughly thousands of homes in Haiti were flooded, around ten thousand families were reported to be affected and evacuated, many people were said to have been displaced by the storm.

“What we know extra is that many, many, schools 3 Orphanages of our mission work have been damaged.

"It's much too early to know how bad things are, but we do know there are a lot of houses that have been destroyed or damaged in many places. Many streets were flooded or blocked with fallen trees throughout the southwestern peninsula. So the dilemma is the difficulties to transport agricultural products from the South, Southwest, Southeast to Port-au-Prince.

I am in Florida at this moment for a few days… Once again, as compassionate people of God’s family, the churches of Christ in Haiti enormously need you now in prayers and your financial support.
